Program Introduction

TESOL for Adults at VIC-CC is a program that provides comprehensive teacher-training by blending theory and practical skills. This four-week intensive program gives our trainees the opportunity to have explored many types of teaching styles and techniques, to have increased their confidence to teach English, to have gained a greater appreciation of the teaching profession and to have found or strengthened their desire for teaching. On completion of this course, graduates will have been guided through a process of becoming knowledgeable and dedicated instructors and meet the rising standards of professional development in the ESL industry.

What Learning Goals Will I Achieve?

Students will have the ability to:

  • Select level- and age-appropriate content.
  • Create unique, engaging activities for the mature students.
  • Utilize assessment and evaluative methods suited to the adult learner.
  • Research, on English language websites, the material needed for their lessons.
  • Provide clear and effective instructions.
  • Make authentic and personalized materials for adult learners.

Admission Requirements:

International Students must pass the Vancouver International College – Career Campus Entrance Interview AND provide one of the following:

  • Completed TESOL, TESOL Advanced, TESOL Advanced Online, OR
  • Any proven equivalent teacher training program certification
Program Length:  
  • 4-week Diploma program
  • 26.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday
  • In class: 4 weeks – 106 hours
Daily Schedule:
  • Monday to Thursday: 9 am – 3:30 pm
  • Friday: 9:30 am – 2:30 pm  

Graduation Requirement: 70% average upon successful completion of all in-class courses and optional practicum.

Optional Onsite Studies & Practicum

The 4-week onsite studies and practicum component of TESOL for Adults with Practicum allows students the opportunity to observe and teach in real life ESL classes at our partner schools. As well as the two warmers and two lessons taught by students during the 4-week placement, the amount of valuable observation time solidifies and complements all the theoretical concepts covered in the in-class portion of TESOL for Adults.

Students can take away a lot from the real world classroom time with experienced, professional ESL instructors.
